About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join our national in-house legal team based in Alexandria.  Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will be a key source of knowledge to the business, providing commercially astute advice across all Schindler processes, products, and services.  You will be working with some of Australia’s most well-known construction & facilities management businesses such as Lend Lease, Multiplex & Brookfield in construction, through to Charter Hall, AMP, Westfield, Myer, David Jones, and Target to name just a few.  

You will need to have previous experience as a Legal Counsel, Lawyer, Commercial Manager / Senior Contracts Administrator in a commercial environment through the full life cycle from drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial contracts to managing disputes. The role will see you managing acceptable commercial levels of risk within the appetite of the business and taking a real-world approach to each transaction through a commercial lens. 

You will be embedded across the business and make a real difference to our commercial outcomes and the business acumen of our employees whilst being involved in some of Australia’s most exciting projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Working collaboratively with key business partners to achieve goals in a timely manner whilst protecting the Company’s interests.

  • Work with internal Schindler stakeholders on proposals and commercial opportunities.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements and contracts.

  • Advise on a wide range of legal issues.

  • Develop internal legal processes to assist operations and the company's growth.

  • Manage the contractual relationship between Schindler and customers.

  • Assist with Insurance claims (public liability etc)

  • Provide monthly reports to senior management and external partners.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in commercial and contract administration.

  • Construction / Facilities Management industry experience.

  • Experience with governance and operational risk and commercial as well as legal acumen.

  • Experience of frontend (required) and backend (highly regarded).

  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management, with the ability to work across the business as a trusted advisor and business partner.

  • Skill in risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in the delivery and implementation of projects.

  • Interest in educating sales and project management teams in legal regulatory and compliance.
